Interview Your Parents Before It’s Too Late

Eraloom workshops teach families how to gently capture stories, voices, and photographs using a proven, trauma-aware framework.  These sessions are educational, participatory, and designed for everyday people - not performers.

WHAT ARE ERALOOM WORKSHOPS?

EraLoom workshops are guided, community-based learning sessions that teach the fundamentals of ethical legacy storytelling.

They are not sales seminars.

They are not technical filmmaking classes.

They are practical, humane introductions to:

  • asking the right questions
  • listening with intention
  • preserving stories with dignity

Workshops are often hosted by libraries, senior centers, veterans groups, and cultural organizations.

About the Workshops

What participants learn

During an EraLoom workshop, participants will:

  • Learn what to ask using prepared prompts aligned to the L.E.G.A.C.Y. Method™
  • Experience a live demonstration of a narrated photo review
  • Understand the difference between:
    • open interviews
    • predetermined storytelling
    • messages for future generations
  • Gain confidence to begin recording—or to know when professional support matters

Each attendee leaves with a printable interview guide and a clearer sense of how to preserve their family’s stories.

Who these workshops are for

EraLoom workshops are ideal for:

  • Adult children of aging parents
  • Grandparents and elders
  • Genealogy and family-history enthusiasts
  • Veterans and community historians
  • Librarians and cultural programmers
  •  Anyone who has ever thought, “I wish I’d asked more questions.”

No experience required.

Why we offer workshops

Our workshops exist for three reasons:

  1. Education before preservation
Families deserve to understand the process before deciding how to proceed.
  2. Community access
Not every family can afford professional services - but every story matters.
  3. Ethical standards
Teaching the right way to ask and listen protects storytellers from harm.

Workshops are a core part of EraLoom’s give-back commitment and are tracked in our Impact Report™.
